The Amani Junior Academy & the Showers of Blessings school in Kenya provide education to 5 to 16 years olds in the region of Watamu, a two hours drive north of Mombasa, Kenya.

After visiting the country in the summer of 2011, one of our Partners, Darren Laverty, pledged to support the schools once he returned to the UK. He saw for himself the hardship families go through in order to send their children to school, something that we take for granted in the UK.  

The schools provide an excellent level of education but pupils often lack the resources to buy basic items, such as textbooks, pencils and even desks.  We’ve committed to raising funds to buy 1,700 textbooks for the schools; one book for every subject each child studies.  We also hope to raise enough funds to buy a number of desks for the schools.  

Our fundraising began at Employee Benefits Live 2011, where for every enquiry form completed at our stand, we pledged one text book to the schools. We will update this page regularly with news on our progress and photos from the school.
