At Secondsight we are committed to providing a great service to all our clients and believe this starts with our employees, who are dedicated to delivering an excellent experience to their clients.

In this month’s edition of ‘Get to know the Secondsight team’, we spoke to Emma Boulton, a Project Manager, who works closely with our clients on the implementation of pension and employee benefit scheme changes.

Hi Emma, tell us about your role at Secondsight?

I’m a project manager, within the ‘Innovation and Delivery’ team, implementing pension and employee benefit changes on a scheme level. Mostly it involves delighting our clients – like all roles in the business! My role includes;

  • Liaising with a variety of contacts within our client’s business to implement projects, from an HR assistant, through to the CEO.
  • Analysing data, the mundane bit of the job – unless that’s your thing!
  • Drafting communications in plain English– a hard task when you’re explaining the likes of salary sacrifice and sometimes where employees’ first language may not be English.
  • And there’s the innovation part of my job title; creating new material, exploring new tools and reviewing processes that benefits both us and our clients.

…and most importantly, all whilst maintaining a healthy work/life balance having recently come back from maternity leave. I’m lucky enough to have a job that allows me to work flexibly.

How long have you been at Secondsight?

Just over four years, and prior to this I worked for our parent company, Foster Denovo   within Private Client, and working with our individual clients for five years.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The variety – every project is different, and you don’t quite know what you’re going to get. No project is without its challenges, and I really enjoy working through them.

What would you say is a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?

10 of us at Foster Denovo signed up to complete the ‘3 peaks Challenge’ in September 2019 for charity. From the moment I stepped on Ben Nevis I struggled and I was the last one to reach the summit. As the saying goes, it’s a marathon not a sprint – and I ended up completing all three mountains.

How do you like to spend a day off?

Bottomless brunch with friends!

Can you name one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I was registered homeless at 16 and moved into supported housing with other 16/17-year-olds.

It feels a very distant memory now, but it was a very turbulent time in my life.  However, I focused on completing my A Levels, whilst working a couple of evening jobs – I think I had three a one point!  And I was lucky enough to be accepted into a university and never looked back.

What is one of your favourite memories from the past year?

Introducing my daughter to my family at 6 months old due to covid restrictions. It was emotional!

Thanks Emma!
